Commission Project

With Consultant's permission, I can now publish this recent project completed for a global corporate office at the newly completed IOI Building in Shenton Way.

Four Artworks for a Corporate Office

Here are the final four pieces I completed for a global corporate office at IOI Tower in downtown Singapore. The client only wanted black and white artwork of Singapore scenes. Remember last August I had a post that said "I need to focus"?

I need to focus

So I have been busy and quiet as I need to focus to work on a project that involved 4 pieces of black and white A2 artwork on streets of Singapore. They will be done on locations from multiple visits from the start but details and figures will be added later in the comfort of my home. I plan to visit the sites early in the morning to capture the light and shadow. Also it will not be too hot plus there are not too many people on the streets in the early mornings.

I started all four pieces on locations already and this is on Smith Street of Chinatown on the stretch that is empty at the moment. Coincidently it was announced this week that Chinatown Business Association won the tender to rejunivate this area of Chinatown.

"The tender to appoint a single master tenant to oversee the historic row of shophouses at 11 to 37 Smith Street was jointly launched by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) back in November last year.". No wonder one morning on 8 Aug, my first seating at Smith Street, I met Colin Goh with his partners at Chinatown Business Association roaming the site. He introduced me to the Ms Lim from Chinatown Business Association and told me, "please draw nice nice" and blasted the photos on his Facebook. This is how we connect people on the streets through sketching on locations!

Commissioned Project

Today on 15 May 2023, I just delivered the complete artwork 1300 x 600mm to the client who is a good friend. Photo here shows a small part. Don't want to stress over deadlines anymore. I am only open to conducting travelling workshops! Retire lor.

Something is brewing

A very old friend approached me to do a project for his firm. I have to use the pencil and eraser and ruler since I graduated from architecture school 50 years ago. 😱😱😱

My architecture training comes in handy, need to get the details and angles right after doing urban sketching without details for so long. Also will enjoy some negative painting too.

Back to Office

So after work from home for so long, I went back to the office today to finish the work on big banner and decals for the campus. Drama happened in the background - first, the 'green' boom lift operator stranded for an hour waiting for his senior to rescue him, then the boom lift got stuck at the 'tunnel road' connecting east and west campus like the Suez canal, plus it was raining today. So glad it's finally done!

Imaginary Skyline

This is what happen when you put together all the buildings owned by a big developer to form an imaginary new skyline.

Draft Sketch

Today at 11:30am, I am going for cataract removal surgery for my right eye and this draft sketch was what I had been rushing for the past few nights. It is going to be a one metre long artwork to put all the significant buildings owned by one of the big developers in Singapore. It is not difficult to begin with since they own most of the buildings along the Fullerton Heritage Waterfront. However, it was more difficult than I originally thought as it progressed. I will need to research into the building heights and sizes when I put them together. As an architect by profession, it has its advantage. I will post the final artwork when it is done.
