So overwhelmed with e-learning preparation at home so I locked myself last weekend in a hotel room in Sentosa just to sketch and relax. Here is the result from #1055 of Hotel Michael.
Didn't realise there are so many empty cable cars at Sentosa from the left and right of Crockfords Tower in the middle of the sketch. On the right is the ferry terminal at Harbour Front Centre. The Sky Tower on the left was permanently closed in 2018. Very quiet from left to right at this difficult time.

Sketching at Tiong Bahru

| Last Saturday sketching with Urban Sketchers Singapore. |
I missed the official sketchwalks this year and great to be back with the Urban Sketchers Singapore this morning at my favourite place to sketch. I planned to sketch block 58 from the wet market side but the beautiful bushy yellow-flowered tree now covered the entire corner of block 58 where Whisk used to be! I was sketching opposite the wet market and the cars, vans and even one big delivery truck blocked my view from 5 to 15 mins as in this car on the left and to almost an hour as in the car on the right!. It was really challenging and so much have changed in Tiong Bahru Estate. Both old corner shops were gone but the charming buildings still there! Now it is Prive on the left and Little House of Dreams on the right! Oh yes, SGH in the distance.

The Good Old Days

Thanks to Cafe Sketchers, it begins to look more like Christmas at The Good Old Days Bistro. I did not refill all my fountain pens, so here is one long sketch with watercolours only on Saunders Waterford Concertina Sketchbook.

Club Street

I was asked to sketch this corner again since July for a story by our local TV station. I need to sign it off as in July but I added colours to this piece. The weather was perfect. This is the most sketched corner of Club Street and Ann Siang Hill. The banners "For Rent" are everywhere since i last visited in July - a tell tale sign of the business in this area.
This is the third similar or almost identical sketch this year but I also sketched it in 2009 and here.

Fullerton Heritage Waterfront

No ink or pen outline, just watercolour washes. Also sketched this from memory, no photo reference. Only a few buildings are accurate, the rest just impression. After the sketch, it is also a joint piece with another sketch done in Feb 2018 that form a panoramic waterfront.

First Sketchwalk after Surgery

I put the bottle of eye drop in the ice pack so I could attend the sketch outing this morning. Such fun to sketch together.
We were sketchng at 126, Watten Estate Road.
The house was designed by the same Architect who designed the Fullerton Hotel or the old GPO.
Added the foliage at home, then I realised I should have painted the sky.

First Sketch after Eye Surgery

First sketch after my cataract removal eye surgery. I need to be at home for 3-hourly eye drop and to avoid dusty and crowded places for fear of infection. After my eye check-out this afternoon, it's good to be able to go outdoor for a short while and did a quick sketch again.

Draft Sketch

Today at 11:30am, I am going for cataract removal surgery for my right eye and this draft sketch was what I had been rushing for the past few nights. It is going to be a one metre long artwork to put all the significant buildings owned by one of the big developers in Singapore. It is not difficult to begin with since they own most of the buildings along the Fullerton Heritage Waterfront. However, it was more difficult than I originally thought as it progressed. I will need to research into the building heights and sizes when I put them together. As an architect by profession, it has its advantage. I will post the final artwork when it is done.

Negative Painting

Found an old work in the stack of old watercolour papers. It was to paint the negative space rather than positive objects.

Direct Watercolour

On the spur of a moment, I tried a few different techniques and this one was direct watercolour without pencil or pen outline of a typical fishing village. I used this style for posters or book illustrations in the past for a few projects.

Result of Jun Sketchwalk

It was a great turn-out and Channel 8 was filming us sketching. I managed to capture the light and shadow before it disappear.

3 metres long skyline sketch

Here is a peep into my latest work. I was away to Shanghai with 27 students who are on a short internship at Charles and Keith in Shanghai. While they were working hard in the office, I was working hard in my hotel room completing a very long sketch of 3 metres long by splashing the sky with my favourite blue and purple sky. I will release more details when I obtain the full green light from the client.

Gift to India

On 26 Feb, 2018, my painting of Uddandarayunipalem, one of the 29 villages in Andhra Pradesh was presented to Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of AP by S. Iswaran, Minister for Trade and Industry, Singapore. Thanks to Temasek Polytechnic, my institution and MTI for the opportunity and my fellow sketchers who were with me on this fun, unforgettable and memorable sketching trip to India.
The original work is here.
