September Sketchwalk at Marine Parade
This month, we’ll be heading to Marine Parade Central! With the recent opening of Thomson-East Coast Line Phase 4, getting to Marine Parade is way more convenient than before! What makes this area special is that it’s Singapore's first housing estate built entirely on reclaimed land. Marine Parade also features interesting landmarks like Parkway Centre and the popular Marine Parade Central Food Centre, known for its great food!

Coffee Splashes again
Did a quick line sketch with coffee splashes while hubby queuing for food. These two foreign kids had beautiful curly hairs that attracted me. The elder boy was playing a very small and old hand-held game while his sister was disturbing him. It reminded me of my two granddaughters when they were fighting most of the time at the dinner table.
As usual, people forming a line to buy coffee and food at Toast Box next to our tables are also phubbers, phub = phone + snub, people who are swiping their handphones according to Oxford Dictionaries.
I am using my old trusted Moleskine Concertina Sketchbook again and gel pen, yes not fountain pen. Back to basic sketching gear.

Beautiful Shophouses at Blair Road
The only disadvantage is that there are cars parked on both sides of the road unlike Koon Seng Road.
I wanted to go back to the basic, so only brought one Moleskine Concertina Sketchbook, a fountain pen, a waterbrush and watercolour set.
You can see my reel on Facebook here.

House of Tan Yeok Nee

It was done on the same day when we had our Sketchwalk at Istana Park. It was a special invitation to visit the House of Tan Yeok Nee before another major renovation by the new owner. Thanks to Associate Professor Yeo Kang Shua from SUTD for the arrangement. We were told we would be invited back when it is fully restored with an airconditioned cafe. Can't wait for that day to see this manificient building again.
The House of Tan Yeok Nee (Chinese: ้ๆญๅนดๅฎ ็ฌฌ or ้ๆญๅนดๅคงๅฆ) is a mansion building located at the junction of Penang Road and Clemenceau Avenue in Singapore. When I was young, I remember this house was the headquarter of The Salvation Army for the longest time till 1991. After an extensive restoration completed in 2000, it was held by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Then I also remember it was occupied by a Chinese Medical Hall before it was the Singapore campus for Amity Global Institute. In 2022, it was sold to the family of the Indonesian tycoon Bachtiar Karim.
The House of Tan Yeok Nee is a fine example of traditional Teochew architecture. More history of House of Tan Yeok Nee at this link.
