Yang Tao Yuan Sheng Hong Temple 杨桃园城隍庙
I went early to look for breakfast and found Ah Hua Teochew Noodles at Block 415 Pandan Gardens. I waited approximately 40 mins for my bowl of dry fish ball noodles and it was totally worth the wait but I was very late to start my sketching. So, I was:
- late for sketching
- bitten by small ants
- 3 fountain pens all out of ink
- got to use the only brushpen to finish the piece
What a day! I am still very glad coz sketching brings us to places we don't normally go, like this nice temple at Pandan Gardens, it is called Yang Tao Yuan Sheng Hong Temple 杨桃园城隍庙
What worth mention is that the dragons, phoenix and other creatures and the motifs on the roof are very different from other temples, some are very graphic, stylize and modern.

Burmese Buddhist Temple
The Page Boy (Thu-nge-daw):
These two boys make sure all is in good order for the arrival of the king and his entourage. Page boys were young sons of lesser princes and nobles who served as errand boys in the palace. He is dressed rather like a jester, but with gold medallions and chains around his neck. He wears his hair tied in two bunches, one on either side of the head, high above the ears.
The Bell:
This bell outside the temple which is carried by two unique royal page boys is one of the master pieces for Myanmar traditional art. Devotees love to ring the bell as it is attractive and exclusive, especially for first time visitors.
The Chinthay:
The mythical lion-like creature standing in pairs at the entrance of a Burmese temple is called a Chinthe (or Chinthay). These statues function as guardians to protect the pagoda or temple from evil. While often depicted as stylized, powerful lions, they can sometimes appear as "man-lion" figures.
The pagodas:
Burmese pagodas, or paya, are sacred stupas in Myanmar that typically house Buddhist relics and act as centers for worship and meditation. They are often bell-shaped, gilded with gold leaf, and topped with a spire called a hti, featuring prominently in Myanmar's landscape, which is often called the "land of pagodas".

Potter's Garden
Did a sketch of the new Potter's Garden with the group "I Jio You Sketching!" yesterday. I added the bridge with the pots on the left and on the right, I added the sculpture we did in 2015 called "Spirit of Singapore" with SG50 fund for a "Goli Project" with Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle.
To me, it was a sketch to signify this ten-year journey from making goli to a garden reminiscing the past in this area.

Emily Hill
After the guided tour, many sketchers still came for the sketchwalk under the group "I Jio You Sketching" at the very quiet part of Singapore to sketch undeterred under the rain! I set up my sketching station with my big umbrella behind me on a cone I found nearby. I had to sketch very quickly when I let the rain drops wet my pants and my shoes. The sky was done at home.
First sketch in a new sketchbook.

PINK

Today at Telok Blangah Hill Park was such a place we sketched together under the hot scotching sun with a sudden passing shower almost at the end of the session. We took refuge in a shelter on the hill top chatting and sketching together, so fun!
I brought my very old A3 Daler Rowney watercolour paper. As I came very late, I used big flat waterbrushes splashing away happily with Holbein Opera pink for the blooming bougainvillea shrubs. Adding pen and ink dots and lines to the trees was therapeutic too.
