People Watch at Parkway Parade Entrance

People watch while having teabreak at Oleh-Oleh Teahouse again before fetching my two granddaughters from their Chinese holiday camp at Parkway Parade. The afternoon sun flooded the entrance and a few benches were occupied all the time with people glued to their smart phones.

NTUC at Parkway Parade

Just before I could finish the sketch at NTUC at Parkway Parade, we met Raymond and his wife who had just returned from oversea trip. He was visibly tired but very happy to sit with us and rest and chit chat.

Mr Mohgan Prata

So many good reivews on Mr Mohgan Prata, the write-up on the passing of Mr Mohgan and how her daughter and wife helped to continue with the bussiness. We went to Tin Yeang Restaurant 添荣餐室,a coffee shop at the corner of Joo Chiat Road and Dunman Road for the very first time on a Thursday morning. We waited for almost an hour but the pratas were so crispy and I liked the curry sauce very much. Very sure we will be back for more. A sketch on these young men sitting in front of our table. When it's their time to collect the food, there's a lot, really a lot of pratas!

Marine Parade Central

I like the old dim sum stall at this Block 84 Marine Parade Central Market and Food Centre. It is called Neptune Hong Kong Dim Sum 海皇香港点心. Their helper started a new stall in the same food centre a few stall away from them called Feng Xin Dim Sum 凤心点心.

The uncle at the opposite corner wet version Apollo Fresh Cockle Fried Kway Teow stall had retired on 30 Jan 2023 and now the stall is occupied by young hawkers selling pig trotters and braised intestines which are very popular. The rental must be high but these new stalls run by younger generations have helped our local hawker cutlure to be sustainable in Marine Parade Central. Unlike the wet market where there are many empty stalls and the stall owners are visibly very old and frail.

Breakfast

I started going to a small corner Chinese coffee shop at the junction of Lorong Mydin and Changi Road. This area is very near to Kembangan MRT station and the area are primarily the old Malay Kampongs in the old days so the road names are in Malay and the roadsides are flanked with Malay eateries and shops. The kopi uncle told me there are many Malaysians frequenting the shop for their familiar local dishes like Malaysian style char Kway Teow, fried mee, laksa, kopi and toasts. There are even tables and chairs at the back alley and there is a car park and many roadside parking lots for their vehicles mainly vans, lorries and small cars providing a very kampong feel to this tiny corner.

My daily sketches

Each daily sketch tells a different story. Who I see, who I meet, what I eat and what I see. I will post them indivually so I can remember the events in the future. Building memories!

Old sketches not posted before

I used to do quick sketches to capture activities or places in a Moleskine A6 pocket sketchbook, I will be progressively posting these sketches found in a sketchbook. This one was done having a 'ME' time at Percolate, a boutique cafe along Bedok North Avenue 3. I needed quiet time to clear my mind after a tradgy happened in the family - the sudden death of my beloved nephew, my brother's son. My father's only grandson. Now thinking back, I secretly wished the circuit breaker came earlier and may be things will be different. Sigh!
