Punggol Waterway

UntitledUntitled
It was another huge turn out at this morning's sketchwalk at Punggol Waterway. It was a very hot day but it did not damper our spirit. We found shaded area under the bridge and I was sketching next to the river bank which was very cool and breezy.

Punggol Waterway was part of the concept plan under Punggol 21 Plus. Before Punggol 21 Plus, there was Punggol 21 which was put on hold due to the financial crisis in the 90s. A central feature of Punggol 21 Plus was the Waterway connecting two reservoirs namely Serangoon Reservoir on one side and Punggol Reservoir on the other side. Punggol Waterway was also called "Venice of Punggol" by some people. By 2015, besides residences, Punggol will have a new commerical hub and a town plaza around Punggol MRT station. Punggol will be as big as Ang Mo Kio when it matures.

November Sketchwalk at Punggol

Yep, I know it's pretty far for most people. But this is a great excuse to go there and check out this new park.

At 9:30AM, we will meet at the entrance of the park marked with the red X. To get there, you take a train to Punggol MRT station and take an LRT to Damai Station one stop away. The Waterway Park will be 5mins away. Alternatively, you can walk from Punggol MRT Station which is about 10-15min walk. From the last time I was there, there is a coffeeshop below a block of flats at Damai Station. You can have your breakfast there.

At 9:30AM, we will do a quick brief and you can enter the park and either choose to move in the left of right direction. And then make a roundabout on the other side of the river to come back. Every part has different features so have fun exploring. I've been there once and found it to be a very nice park. It's also long. I didn't manage to cover everything. Certainly worth going there. If you cycle, perhaps you might want to bring your bike.

At 12.30PM, we will meet back at the meeting point for show and tell. If it rains, we will find shelter nearby.

Punggol doesn't have too many food options. For lunch, you could eat at the coffeeshop near Damai Stn, or pack your own sandwiches. I heard that if you take the LRT to Rivera stn (3 stops away), there are cafes and eateries there (eg. Popeyes).

It will be easy to find us if you are late. Just look for people with sketchbooks anywhere and everywhere along the Waterway. Call me at 91070735 if you are absolutely and totally lost. But please try not to call me as I will be busy drawing. Thanks.

Dinner in Hong Kong

131125_dinner
Family dinner at Chiu Chow Garden, Jardine House. Our table had a 5-week old baby and a 18-month toddler while most of the people there were in office suits on a Monday evening.

Hong Kong

I was baby sitting my new-born granddaughter and stole some time to do this sketch. Very therapeutic to do the mountain in black ink, I could just go on and on.

A dinner sketch at Megumi Japanese Restaurant within short walking distance from my house. How convenient! Love the Japanese curtain design as a screen to the kitchen.

food court at the airport

131116_T3
Everyone in my family was out to do something on a Saturday evening. I was home alone and I decided to explore Changi Airport food court to sketch people. The food court on basement 2 of Terminal 3 was very crowded indeed. Some people were staring at me while I sketched. May be they were curious, may be they were not happy that I occupied a seat when there was hardly any empty seat in the food court. They were waiting for me to leave perhaps? But I still had soup and rice left on the table. Can you see them on my sketch?

131101_TP
On 1 Nov 2013, I took on a new role at my workplace. I moved out of School of Design and becoming the first Artist-in-Residence at Temasek Polytechnic under the office of Centre for TransCultural Studies. On the first day of my new role, it was also the Community Day 2013. On this day, I attended a few activities related to arts and culture and this sketch was done during one of the activities - the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

Marine Parade

131028_MarineParade
I had to get new supplies for my medication on high cholesterol, I had only 3 pills left. After getting my pills, I went to eat my favourite porridge at this coffee shop opposite the clinic. There were so many older folks around me, Marine Parade as an old town, is aging too.
