Day 11 - Insadong

Finally did a sketch in Insadong after lunch. Very crowded in the day but very empty at night when we went there last two nights. We stayed in Insadong after returning from Suwon.

Finally, a sketch at Insadong near to the hotel where I stayed. Hotel Kuretakso can be seen right in the middle of this sketch.

I had lunch at one very small eatery on the second floor of a building. I did not know we need to use the scissors to cut the photato starched noodles so it was rubbery that I could not finish. Then I was late by just 2 mintues for the final group photo. I saw the group at a distance and tried to walk faster and faster. Absolutely hate myself for that but I could not walk fast at my age. Nevertheless, I did join fellow sketchers for small group photos here and there. The consolation was to take a bus with the younger sketchers from Singapore and catched up with them along the way. Also I had a really good BBQ dinner meal with my usual travelling pals KK from Penang and Pramote from Bangkok. We used to travel together to the symposiums in Lisbon (2012), Barcelona (2013) and Paraty (2014) and not to mention the one in Singapore (2015).

Anyway I completed the big sketch with the rest of fellow sketchers from this angle.

4th Day in Suwon sketching at Buksudong Catholic Church

Final day of Asia Link Sketchwalk we took a subway line from City Hall Station to Maegyo Staion then a crowded bus to Suwon Hwaseong Museum. On the way walking to the Museum, I spotted a sketcher and went in to the compound of Buksudong Catholic Church. The group almost completed their sketch when I sat down and started to sketch. I continued to sketch after taking a group photo with the group who left with the sketchwalk staff. I met Ravi and his other sketchers who also stayed back to complete their sketches.

Buksudong Catholic Church was established in 1923 during the Japanese occupation of Korea, and is one of the designated Catholic pilgrimage sites. The church was shaped like a bishop's mitre and there were many beautiful sculptures on the green lawn.

Another view of the majestic Paldalmun in the afternoon sun. Here I was sketching with Alien Bin Bin and his two daughters aged 20 and 16. Forget to ask his real name but the 46-year-old famous artist was from Guangzhou with many followers on his social media.

Third Day in Suwon at Jidong Market

Everyone was sketching this traditional Jidong Market next to Paldalmun. It was a very crowded place with so many things to see in the market and so many types of Korean food to explore.

Paldalmun

Sketch the iconic Paldalmun in the afternoon after walking along Suwoncheon Stream from Hwahong Gate. Did this with T-shirt and short pants. So cold towards the end, my fingers were all dumb and I could not continue with the colouring. I went back after the event was over on 8 Oct and complete it with colours on location before checking out the hotel to head for Seoul in the afternoon.

Second Day of Asia Link Sketchwalk Suwon

This is Day 5 for my Korean trip but second day of Asia Link Sketchwalk event in Suwon. I did not attend the demonstration session but headed to Hwahong Gate to sketch this iconic view from the Suwoncheon Stream below while most sketchers were sketching at the road level.

First Day of Asia Link Sketchwalk Suwon

This is Day 4 for my Korean trip but first day of Asia Link Sketchwalk event in Suwon. after 1pm registration, I went to the rooftop of Suwon Convention Centre to sketch the beautiful Woncheon Lake.

Day 3 - Gyeonggung Palace

A sketch at Gyeongbokgung Palace where everyone locals or tourists were dressing up in Hanbok, Korean traditional outfits to take photos. It was so crowded as we were told later it was the long weekend holidays for the locals.

Day 2 - Skyline of Seoul

Totally unexpected a spectacular view of Seoul Tower from the hotel 19th floor while we were having breakfast. We stayed at Ibis Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong on the 16th floor, the view is almost the same with Seoul Tower slightly blocked by other buildings. I did this sketch while having breakfast which closed at 10am.

Day 1 - Seoul

About 40 sketchers from Singapore are attending the Asia Link Sketchwalk at Suwon from 4 - 7 Oct 2023. This is the first sketch at Changi Airport before playing off to Seoul at Gate 14, T3. My husband and I left for Seoul on 1 Oct 2023. On the SQ600 flight, 6 of us found out that we were sitting together in 3 rows, another 2 sketchers were sitting nearby, totally unplanned.

A new sketchbook

This is 280 x 255mm Saunders Waterford Watercolour Sketchbook that I bought ten years ago during the Urban Sketchers Symposium held in Barcelona in 2013. The sizing of the papers seem to be ok after so many years.
