Boon Tat Street

120930_BoonTatSt
Corner of Boon Tat Street and Amoy Street on a quiet Sunday morning. So quiet that there was not a single car in front of me. Near the lone tree is the icon of this area with its "karang guni" meaning "knick knacks" corner. Huge recycle items covered with big canvas laid quietly next to the end wall of the old shophouses within the chain-linked compound. Even old bicycles are stacked and chained to the fence. Old rag and bone men and women are seen carting pile and pile of corrugated cardboard to this corner on weekdays - a century old and dying breed of merchant in Singapore.
