Stamping Ground Coffee

Need some 'ME' time so chilling with a coffee and people watch at Stamping Ground Coffee just outside my house. I am leaving for Taiwan and Hong Kong early morning for two weeks but I have yet to pack my suitcase. Chill!

Trishaw Photo Booth

I missed the official September Sketchwalk due to my eye check up before leaving for Taiwan tomorrow. So I did a line sketch during lunch break at Rasapura, Marina Bay Sands. So many tourists enjoying our local cuisine at the food court. It's a little pricy but ambiance is good and taste is yummy! There are two trishaw tables for photo taking, only found in touristy food court. — at Rasapura Masters foodcourt.

Club Street

I was asked to sketch this corner again since July for a story by our local TV station. I need to sign it off as in July but I added colours to this piece. The weather was perfect. This is the most sketched corner of Club Street and Ann Siang Hill. The banners "For Rent" are everywhere since i last visited in July - a tell tale sign of the business in this area.

This is the third similar or almost identical sketch this year but I also sketched it in 2009 and here.

Fullerton Heritage Waterfront

No ink or pen outline, just watercolour washes. Also sketched this from memory, no photo reference. Only a few buildings are accurate, the rest just impression. After the sketch, it is also a joint piece with another sketch done in Feb 2018 that form a panoramic waterfront.

September Sketchwalk at Old Changi Hospital

For this month's sketchwalk, we will visit a piece of our history with an illustrious past - the Old Changi Hospital at Netheravon Road. Access inside the buildings are restricted, but we can sketch from the outside. Give yourselves some time to make your way there as it is quite "ulu", but this is a rare chance to sketch this far-flung part of Singapore. If you have the time, stay for the sunset at the Changi Boardwalk, or have a bite at Coastal Settlement, which is quite a place to sketch as well.

Sketching Food

Don't say I never sketch what i eat. However I have a confession - I ate one egg when the sketch was done half-way.

Sketching Lunch Crowd

Capturing the moment and sketching fast during lunch crowd. We went back to Rasapura again and this group of Taiwanese tourists were eating Bak-Kut-Teh (Pork Rib Soup) and kept going back to the stall for more soup. They were also sharing a plate of durian flavoured ice kachang - our local dessert made from crushed ice with syrup and jelly poured on top. They were still there when I left after food and sketching.

Marina Bay and Red Dot Museum

We visited the Red Dot Museum and did a sketch at Marina Bay outside Marina Bay Sands. The Red Dot Museum was located at the former Marina Bay City Gallery managed by URA. I was very disappointed that it was gone because it was more beneficial to the locals and tourists to know about urban design and city planning on Marina Bay. I guess it was hard to maintain and there was no commercial benefit and political will to keep it.

Rasapura at MBS

Haven't been to Rasapura, the food court at Marina Bay Sands for a long time. The interior of the newly renovated Rasapura at Marina Sands is less dramatic to me without the curvy ceiling panels. It took me a while to find my favourite stalls in the new layout. So many tourists dinning with their lugguages of different shapes, sizes and colours on a typical weekday.

Rasapura was first opened on 1 Dec 2010 and I first sketched the place on 3 Dec, 2010. The three old sketches of the same Rasapura are here.

Quite rare nowadays to spot man wearing suspenders. He never looked up. He was looking at his phone the whole time while I was sketching.

East Coast Road

So much changes to this place. Now I am sitting at Forty Hands which has been here for around 3 months already.
Here are the development of the sketch from the beginning.

Forty Hands at East Coast Road

Forty Hands opened a new outlet at 226 East Coast Road for about 3 months. The quotes on top of the shelves were written down on the bottom left. Clever use of empty tins for the counter. The tins show a picture of ham or logo of 'Forty Hands'.

Tai Thong Crescent

I sketch this place a few times in the past and I witness the demolition of old houses to make way for the new expensive condominiums. The South River Prawn Noodles is still there and I was lucky to find the corner seat to sketch after a satisfying bowl of prawn noodles.

Bedok 216 Hawker Centre

Bedok 216 Hawker Centre is a typical market cum food centre in the east. Very popular and it is now connected to all the other amenities in Bedok Central such as Bedok Mall, Bedok Heart Beat and Bedok Town Square. It was a Monday so many food stalls were closed but it was still crowded with residents looking for breakfast.

First Sketchwalk after Surgery

I put the bottle of eye drop in the ice pack so I could attend the sketch outing this morning. Such fun to sketch together.
We were sketchng at 126, Watten Estate Road.
The house was designed by the same Architect who designed the Fullerton Hotel or the old GPO.
Added the foliage at home, then I realised I should have painted the sky.
