ninethirty by awfully chocolate

130929_ninethirty
Yes, there was a parking lot! So I ended up at Ninethirty by Awfully Chocolate at the corner of East Coast Road and Joo Chiat Road. I ordered a breakfast meal and a coffee at around 5:30pm plus a quick sketch of the young customers sitting right in front of me.

132 meepok

130928_132meepok
A free Saturday morning finally! So we went to block 59, Marine Parade Terrace for 132 meepok. It was moved here from the coffee shop outside my house along Upper East Coast Road. It was better than I could remember. The son now seemed to finally acquire his father's secret in a cooking up a delicious bowl of meepok (noodles). It had a constant long line of people so while my husband was queuing, I sketched the uncles.

September Sketchwalk

We're going to explore this quaint old place, and see what's become of it and its surroundings after the decommissioning of the Malayan Railway in Singapore.

Make sure to bring water and a hat to keep cool, and put on a bug repellant band so you don't get bitten.

Meet at the station building at 4.30pm. Then we are free to roam the vicinity. Please meet back the same place for show and tell. If it gets too dark, we can all walk back to King Albert Park Mall for show and tell. We can all have dinner at McDonalds.

Favian has suggested a few areas we can sketch:
1) Bkt timah rail station (of course!)
2) King Albert Park MacDonald's etc (before it's demolished!)
3) Bkt Timah Rail Bridge (if it is still there)
4) Bkt Timah Shopping Centre, Beauty World (old school malls!)

Or you can just stay around to sketch the former station building.

I would suggest sketchers to do something different this time. Say, sketch with a different medium, or sketch large format. If you are used to sketching A4 size, maybe try A3 this time or something bigger like A2. If you are up for the challenge.

PS: For those who are driving, please park at King Albert Park, and then walk to the station. See map for direction. I have also included the buses you can take to come here for those who are using public transport

You may download the map and print to refer later. We will keep you posted if there is any change to the plan.

Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations

130914_concert
A very quick sketch as it was our turn to perform on stage for the mid-autumn festival celebrations on behalf of Braddell Heights Community Club. We moved there when Hwa Chong Alumni Building at Bukit Timah Road was demolished in July this year. I am a pipa player in the Chinese Orchestra formed by old schoolmates of more than 40 years when we studied at National Junior College, the only JC in the early 70s. When we formed the orchestra in 2008 or 2009, we were invited by Hwa Chong Alumni to use their music room every Sunday for practice. It is a way for old friends to meet and jam for fun!

lunch time

130912_TemasekPoly
Canteen was closed during vacation at School of Design where I work, so I decided to take my lunch at McDonald located in the campus. This group of ladies were quite loud and from their conversation, they should be graduates or external participants for a meeting or an event.

Creamery at Star Theatre

130908_StarTheatre
Did a sketch at Creamery while having ice cream and coffee at Star Theatre. We were waiting to pick up our children who were attending the talk by Nick Vujicic. Earlier we were unable to park at the place when we saw a long long line of cars waiting at the car park entrance. We were lucky to park at the road side near the building. Next we found ourselves queing for food and looking for seats in the crowded food court. It must be the theatre crowd. It's a big complex with open air shops on the lower floors and a 5000-seat state of the art theatre on the upper floors. Good eco friendly concept mall but too crowded a place for me. Can you spot the open-step outdoor amphiteatre in my sketch? I will like to see how will the building work when there is a huge storm.

Book launch at Bookactually

130906_Booksactually
Zhu Hong had his book launch at Booksactually, 9 Yong Siak Street at Tiong Bahru Estate. Had not seen Miel Dengcoy for a while. He is here in my sketch on the left with Ignatius Yeo in the middle and Zhu Hong on the right. He was holding his phone, again. If you not already known, his latest book entitled 'Have phone, will paint' collected more than 125 pages of sketches done with his Samsung Galaxy Note. Finally, can you spot Cake, the cat in my sketch too?

Dim Sum at Geylang

130901_Geylang
Too busy to sketch lately. Finally started a new muji sketchbook on Sunday 1 Sep at Geylang while having dinner. I was introduced to this Dim Sum place at the coffee shop by sketcher friends and it was really cheap and good. Interesting sight and sound at Lorong 17 Geylang too. A young man stood up and put a chair on the parking lot in front of the coffee shop when a driver drove the car away. He put another chair again on another adjacent parking lot when the other driver drove out of the lot. Uniquely Geylang!

130715_Granada2
130715_Granada3
We arrived in Granada in the morning after a good sleep in the cabin of a very comfortable night train. It was a super quick sketch about 15 minutes on a very hot morning. The lunch sketch was done in the neighbourhoods of the Albaicin at almost 40 deg C. Even the waiters were wearing sunglasses! In the evening, we watched a very exciting flamingo performance inside a cave at Sacromente. We sat next to the performers that we could literally touch the dancers!
