I did a sketch on my way to Bangkok when I chanced upon this guy with his branded eye-wear and outfit was reading Monocle!

Cover

130225_1cover
Here is the front and back cover of the foldable sketchbook I brought for this trip. I just got back from Bangkok for the Sketchwalk ChaoPhraya event from 22 to 25 Feb 2013 together with sketchers from Penang, Taiwan, Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket and Bangkok! I will scan my work when I clear the important stuff in the office. The day I was back to the office, I had to clear about 150 emails. More information about the trip and sketches on Facebook.

February sketchwalk

For all those who did not join Tia and gang for the Bangkok sketch trip, you can still join those in Singapore for Thai-based sketchwalk. We will be sketching around Golden Mile Complex where they sell Thai products and good Thai food! We will meet at the Golden Mile FOOD CENTRE (see map below) somewhere on the 1ST FLOOR (not basement) at 930am. Just look for a bunch of sketchers gathered there. You can have your breakfast there earlier too. At 930am, we will spread out in all directions, free and easy style, to sketch.

Here are some ideas where you could go: 1) snoop around Golden Mile Complex. 2) draw behind Golden Mile complex where you can see the shoreline. 3) Draw the army market where army boys buy army gear. It's just above the food centre we are meeting at. You can buy foldable stools there too. 4) Climb up to the higher floors of the flats and building around for a fresh view of things.

We will meet back at the same meeting point at 1230pm to see each other's sketches. For lunch, you can try out the food stall at Golden Mile Complex or anywhere else you like. At the food centre, the claypot rice at the basement right at the corner is good. And so is the Fried Hokkien mee in the middle of the basement floor. If you are lost, you can call Andrew at 91070735. But we should not be hard to locate.

To get there, the closest MRT station is Lavander. From there, it is a short walk to the meeting point. See you there!

Back to Berlin Wall in Singapore

130205_berlinwall
This is the Berlin Wall in Bedok Reserviour Park today. I did a sketch on 21 Jan 2011 on the same location. The difference is that the trees have grown taller and there is now a bistro on the left. I went there for a coffee only to find out that it opened from 5pm to 11pm.
More on the unveiling of the Berlin Wall here.

From my last post:

Bedok Reservoir near my work place is really quiet during lunch hours. There are four panels of Berlin Wall enclosed in a glass box in this circular pavilion. I thought something of this significant nature should be displayed in the busy city area for more people to see. On the panels, there are the pictures of two kings, one smiling, one sad, drawn by grafitti artist Dennis Kaun in the weeks following the fall of the Wall. This motif of the two kings has been repeatedly painted and repainted on the Berlin Wall long before it fell. They are called "Kings of Freedom".

The day the panels were unveiled, the authority said this would be an attractive spot in the park and a bistro will be built as an extension to the Berlin Wall installation. One year has passed and there is still no sign of the bistro.

big lady at breakfast

130202_Breakfast
The big lady on the left in this sketch was talking to the old lady sitting in a wheelchair. I could not help but wanted to sketch them. I was having porridge breakfast at my favourite Hua Hua Coffee Shop at Marine Parade.

Kampong Glam

130203_KgGlam
I found a carpark lot at the busy Kampong Glam on a Sunday evening so I decided to park my car and made a sketch inside the car. I later went down to take a stroll at the nearby Malay Heritage Centre and I was impressed with the Malay traditional music played by the young musicians in traditional costumes at the shelter in the garden area.
