sketching as a social activity

Met these three young people at Coffee Bean, Parkway Parade and I showed them the sketch when they walked passed my seat and saw what I was doing. They asked to add me on facebook after knowing I sketched at cafe most of the time. The lady took a picture with me pointing to herself in my sketch. Sketching is really a social activity that we made friends along the way.

Result of Sketchwalk at Little India

It was a big group at the Little India sketchwalk. We split into a few smaller groups after the briefing and my group crossed Serangoon Road and settled at the corner of Dunlop St and Clive St. It was quite a sight when the sketchers sat along the roadside curb. Before we could complete the first piece, it was pouring so we had to find shelter at the five-foot way along shophouse at Dunlop Street. It was then that we had a good discussion and sharing on various tools and sketchbooks with the senior artists Chan Chang How, Pang Teng Khoon and Asnee.

We dashed across the street and some of us sat at a cozy cafe to sketch. I did 3 pieces at the end. We then went back to the food center to have the "show and tell" and it was so inspiring after seeing all the sketches presented by different groups.

Again, look at the sketches of Little India, who says Singapore is boring?

This will be our second time drawing around little india if you joined us some time back. But this is the other end of Little India.

We are also giving away attractive prizes courtesy of Parka this saturday!
A very senior sketcher from Bangkok will be joining us too! You may see Asnee's work here.

Everyone is welcome to join us. Just bring your own sketching materials and dress breezy. Call Tia 96968080 or Andrew 91070735 for more info or if you get lost. See you there!

lunch at Imperial Treasure Fine Chinese Cuisine

I did this quick sketch after a good meal with a peking duck dish at the Imperial Treasure Fine Chinese Cuisine at Marina Bay Sands. My sister paid for the meal. Judging from the lunch crowd, the business is considered very good.

first sketch on a new Muji sketchbook

110610_starbucks

coffee splashes from Starbucks and I notice their coffees are much lighter compared to the local black coffees from the coffee shops. This is the branch at Marina Square where I managed to buy the Muji sketchbook. The price of each sketchbook has increased by 20%. I think it is too much - no wonder people are complaining about he higher cost of living.

It took me a while to decide to buy the sketchbook and this is the first sketch on the new sketchbook.

a drawing field trip

110602_thowkwang

On a hot thursday at 12.45pm, I brought a group of 26 design students to Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle for a drawing trip. The students enjoyed the place and to many of them, it was their first visit to a dragon kiln. I saw many impressive little sketches on their A4 size sketchbook. They would need to do another A3 size drawing of the place but it started pouring at 4pm so we had to leave. The coach was there waiting for the students to bring them back to the campus. Apart from the mosquito attack, it was quite a smooth and successful field trip.

I started this piece as a quick demo piece to a small group of students when most of them already started drawing and settled down quite well. I added the colours for the trees on the spot but completed the colouring and added more textures later at home.

at Spinelli

110522_Spinelli

I left my people and cafe sketchbook at Dragon Klin and I got it back today. Here is the sketch last Sunday at the Spinelli at King Albert Park.

It was done on the sketchbook book made by Drewscape as I could not get any Muji Sketchbook in town. They are temporarily out of stock.
